BABY & CHILD NAMINGS
Throughout history birth has been seen as a wonderful event to be celebrated, and a natural part of this celebration was the bestowal of a name. Therefore, namegiving ceremonies are not new to us - in fact they have a history almost as old as the human race!
Unfortunately, for many who are not part of a formal religion there has not been an obvious alternative to traditional religious ceremonies such as christenings.
More recently however, secular Naming Ceremonies, as performed by civil celebrants such as myself, have become increasingly popular.
Namings can be empowering and deeply fulfilling as you bless your child and bestow their name, choose godparents or mentors, honour grandparents, plant a tree, read poetry, sing, feast, and generally celebrate the joy of your child, in your own style.
I would be delighted to work with you in creating a naming ceremony for your child - whether they be a babe-in-arms, or any age!
I place great importance on creating a naming ceremony unique to you - reflecting your values, your personalities, and your dreams for your child. The ceremony can be as spiritual (or not) as you wish, and you can have as much input as you want into its form and content.
